First-Ever LiveWire Electric Motorcycle Training Launches in the U.S.
Bartels’ Harley-Davidson in Marina Del Rey now offers motorcycle training on LiveWire S2.
If you've ever wanted to learn how to ride but the whole clutch-gear-stall-repeat thing held you back, your moment just arrived. For the first time in the U.S., new riders can now learn on LiveWire’s all-electric S2 motorcycles at Bartels’ Harley-Davidson® Riding Academy in Marina del Rey. No gears, no engine noise, no intimidation. Just pure electric fun from day one.
This course may be designed for beginners, but any rider can benefit, whether you're brand new or brushing up. You’ll gain the core skills, confidence, and road knowledge you need to get licensed and stay safe. Best part? The motorcycle is provided. You just bring the gear.

A Smarter Way to Start
By removing the complexity of shifting, the LiveWire S2 experience lets you zero in on the essentials: balance, braking, cornering, and throttle control. The S2 Mulholland™ and S2 Alpinista™ are specially tuned for this program, with exclusive software that softens throttle response, enhances regenerative braking, and boosts traction control. Frame protection kits are also installed for added peace of mind while learning.
What to Expect:
- Ride a genuine LiveWire S2 motorcycle. Choose from Mulholland or Alpinista
- Instructors certified by both the California Motorcyclist Safety Program (CMSP) and the Harley-Davidson® Riding Academy
- In-classroom and on-range sessions:
- Session 1: A classroom deep dive into motorcycle basics and road rules
- Sessions 2 & 3: Hands-on riding time in a secure, enclosed range designed specifically for motorcycle training
- Learn essential skills like safe braking, turning, and controlled acceleration
- Upon successful completion of the New Rider Course, graduates earn their DL389* and Riding Academy Certificate of Completion, providing a clear path to becoming a licensed motorcyclist*

Big Picture: Big Shift
This isn’t just a local upgrade, it’s a national vision. LiveWire plans to expand electric rider training across the country, making riding more accessible, future-forward, and way less intimidating for new generations.
*Important Licensing Information
Graduates will receive a DL 389 Certificate of Completion, which waives the riding skills portion of the motorcycle endorsement process in California. To obtain a valid motorcycle endorsement (Class M1 or M2), graduates must present the DL 389 at a California DMV and pass the written knowledge exam. Please note: The DL 389 is not a motorcycle license and does not authorize riding on public roads. Riders must complete all DMV requirements and be issued a motorcycle endorsement on their California driver’s license before legally operating a motorcycle.
